Global warming and conserving fuel

In these days and times the way gas prices are rising each one of us have to find all the ways that we can to save gasoline. It doesn’t look like the prices are going to go down anytime soon especially during the summer vacation season. The average gallon of gas is $4.00 per gallon as of this writing. There are many unavoidable expenses you cannot cut back on, such as commuting to work or other essential activities, but there are many ways the consumer can cut back on using too much gasoline. Not only are gas prices rising to unaffordable heights but the emissions thrown out by our engines contributes to global warming. There are many things that you can do to conserve the use of fuel in order to prevent detrimental climate change.

The most obvious ploy in protecting the atmosphere from emissions is to consider the necessity of the trip. Can you take care of the business over the phone or on the internet? If not, try to combine all your errands into one trip. Write down all the places you need to go, put them in order as you enter and leave the areas you need to go to avoid backtracking. According to “The Frugal Life” website, every mile that you drive will cost you 36 cents. So if the trip is not necessary, you should reconsider the timing. If you are within walking distance or it is manageable by bicycle, you can get some extra exercise while saving the cost of fuel and avoiding the emission of harmful gases into the atmosphere.
If you need to replace your vehicle or are buying one for the first time, consider one that gets high gas mileage, a hybrid that uses both gasoline and electricity or wait a little longer for compressed-air vehicles to make their way to your area. The most earth-friendly cars are those with fewer accessories, four cylinders, manual transmissions, lighter weight, and smaller engines that get much better gas mileage.

If you have to stop for more than one minute, other than in traffic, turn your engine off. Restarting your engine will save gas rather than sitting there idling for more than a minute. Turn off your engine as soon as you stop, rather than waiting until you unbuckle your seatbelt, turn off lights and collect all the things that you are taking in with you. Try to avoid any routes that might have a traffic jam. If there is a red light ahead, coast to it. Getting there faster won’t make it change! Coast down hills when possible.

Fuel your vehicle at the coolest time of the day, either in the early morning or later at night. Your engine uses gas by weight, but gas pumps pump gas by volume. The colder the fuel is when you pump it, the more of it you will get for the same amount of money.

These are all great ways to conserve fuel consumption as well as curbing harmful emissions into the atmosphere that contribute to global warming.
